On March 7, 2009, “Nana” was taken away from us due to a senseless act of crime and violence.  Who is Nana?  Mrs. Carolyn Ward was a precious lady who voluntarily joined our West Chester family a couple of years ago.  Because of her love for people and volunteering, Carolyn reported to the school each and every day, just as the paid employees do.  Carolyn assisted the classroom teachers with everything from making copies and stapling papers to making booklets and working with students. 

We have been so blessed by Mrs. Carolyn’s presence for the last couple of years.  You could count on Mrs. Carolyn’s witty charm and charisma to make you smile.  If you were having a bad day, just being around her would make it better.  Although she was taken away from us, we all feel as if we are somewhat of a better person from just knowing her.

We were very honored to hear that the family of Carolyn Ward is making a request that monetary contributions be made to the West Chester Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

 

We would like to make some type of permanent memorial in her honor.  We know that she would want the children to benefit from these donations, so we would like to create some type of permanent seating area for our children on the playground.  Carolyn loved to watch them play and just “be kids.”

 

We are not sure of the amount of funds that will be contributed, but we would like to see possibly some benches (like the ones we have out front) set in concrete, some shade trees...who knows...maybe even a gazebo.
