Henderson

The county seat of Chester County is Henderson. The original settlement was called Dayton. During the Civil War it was changed to Henderson's Station, probably after Henderson County.  A depot was built by the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and the town grew around the depot and railroad tracks.  In 1862, while northern troops guarded the depot, rebels attacked and burned nearly 100 bales of cotton along with the depot and water tank.

The Chester County Courthouse located in Henderson, Tennessee was constructed in 1913. The first two courthouses were destroyed by fire.  The present courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
