Tennessee

Tennessee became the sixteenth state of the United States in 1796.  Three United States presidents came from Tennessee:  Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson.  The homes of these three presidents still stand in Tennessee and are open for touring.

During the Civil War, more battles were fought in Tennessee than any other state except for Virginia.  In tribute to those who lost their lives fighting on both sides, Tennessee has four National Military Parks.  These parks are at the sites of the battles of Chattanooga and Chickamauga, Fort Donelson, Shiloh, and Stones River.  After the war, Tennessee was the first state to re-enter the Union.

Tennessee is a unique state from its geography, to its crafts, cultures, and natural resources.
