"DECEMBER NEWS"

December 21, 2006

Sleeping bags, pillows, Teddy bears, everywhere.  Friday the fifth grade
had their reward Camp In.  Those who earned the reward, went to the gym
for about an hour and read or played board games.  They had a great time
using time well earned.
Mrs. Kirk's 4-Hers have been busy collecting canned goods.  Mrs. Amy
came last week to collect the many cans to take to the Carl Perkins
Center.  The students did a great job in their collection.
Mrs. England's fifth grade homeroom collected presents for the Carl
Perkins Center.  They had a huge box of gifts to give them.   Great
going!
Everyone have a safe and happy Christmas break!

In the computer lab, the fourth and fifth grades are learning about
famous Tennesseans. Each grade is still busy working on their
portfolios for the year.
Mrs. Wilson's fifth grade classes are digging into rocks and minerals in
science. In social studies, Mrs. Foster has been teaching a unit on
World War II.
Box Tops will be picked up on Dec. 15. The last time to turn them in
this year is Feb. 15, 2007. So, keep saving!
Tar Wars poster winners have been announced by Mrs. Connie. Taking
first place was Austin Newman. Second place went to Kyle Geary and in
third place was Alyssa Gately. The students created posters on the
problems resulting from using tobacco in any form. Congratulations!
In Mrs. Varvel' sixth grade classes, the students are doing reports on
the solar system. They made models and did a Power Point presentation
to show the class. The students did a great job.
Mrs. Varvel's English classes are commercials on different products.
They have to use a type of propaganda to persuade their classmates that
their item is the best. Some of the commercials will be shown on our
Wednesday morning school broadcast.
Please make sure your child has turned in his/her library book before
Christmas break. Everything is due before then.
We will get out of school Dec. 19 at 10:00 that morning. School will
resume on Wednesday, January 3.

After School Program has the students working hard. This week the
students are concentrating on main idea, mutiplication and the
perimeter of rectangles.
All classes were involved in taking the ThinkLink tests this Monday.
This tests helps the teacher in preparing for the TCAP tests later this
year. It also shows how much gain the students have made since the
beginning of the year.
At CCMS, we are making our tenth year the greatest!
