Scholarship Scams
Rule to remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The following items are possible red flags for scholarship scams:
- Request payment fee
- Require your credit card number, bank account number, social security number, etc.
- Guarantee scholarship winnings
- Do not include a telephone number
- You are notified as a recipient of a scholarship for which you didn't apply.
- You should not pay money for scholarship searches. You can do this for free through books and the Internet.
